To meme or not to meme...that is the question

September 11th, 2006 (08:05 am)

current mood: accomplished

My youngest offspring has "tagged" me and so my first meme-thing:

Rules: The 1st player of this "game" starts with the topic "6 weird habits/things about yourself" and people who get tagged need to write a journal about their 6 weird habits/things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names.

So...weird things about me...where to start, where to start?

1. I see auras. In color. Really.

2. I see music in color as well. (I sense a pattern beginning.)

3. I have a weakness for geeky men. (Have you met my husband?)

4. I believe that the future Star Trek presents WILL happen one day. (Except for maybe those mini-skirt uniforms.)

5. My favorite programming language is Assembler. (Manipulating things down to the little zeros and ones is where it's at, baby!)

6. Last one, difficult to choose. Should I go with "I like cutting out coupons EXACTLY on the dotted lines" or my beliefs on hell and heaven and the nonexistance thereof? I'll go with "I like cutting out coupons EXACTLY on the dotted lines" and expand upon the other thing at a later date.

Done. Now what do I do if I don't know 6 people to tag?

Little Princesses

August 22nd, 2006 (12:15 pm)

current location: Work
current mood: contemplative
current song: My Yanni station from Pandora

Watched "The Little Princess" last night, a movie I just adore (even the old version that starred Shirley Temple). Still makes me cry.

And then I got to remembering reading to my daughters when they were small. We read a lot of books and I enjoyed every single one of them. (Well, okay, one of the Hitchhiker books dragged a bit and the battle scenes in LOTR cannot be read out loud effectively.) I will carry the memories of reading to them the rest of my days. Thank you, my No-Longer-So-Little Princesses.

On the knitting front, I'm still working on my very first sock, my husband's never ending scarf (you'd think it wouldn't take that long since he's such a short little guy), my cotton sweater (not getting far on that one since I lost the pattern...it's in my house somewhere, I swear it is), my husband's wooly sweater (almost done with the back), and I'm on square 3 of the 4 squares I'm trading this month.

Oh, and the bus dilemma: I decided to take a different bus, the one I used to take to work, and then transfer to another bus for the last 15 minutes of the ride. I like the #22 bus -- it seems to be bigger and cleaner (an optical illusion, I'm sure, but it works for me) and there are not nearly as many people riding it so plenty of room to knit. Plus the scenery going by is prettier. Transferring to the #3 for the last 15 minutes has turned out to be problematic in that the time difference between when the #22 gets to the transfer point and the #3 leaves the transfer point is miniscule. If the #22 is just a bit late inbound...I miss the #3. Then if the #3 outbound is a bit late...I miss the #22. Difficult? Yes. Impossible? Not yet...we shall see.

Better today except for the bus

current mood: calm
current song: none...yet

Feeling better today. Went to the Art Fair and scored some swag plus my first born called me with kind and gentle words. Thank you, darling child. Makes up for the 21 hours of labor. :D

But the bus, the bus! First time on a new bus to work and it was too crowded to knit (*gasp*). This will NOT do. I have a multiprong plan to fix this horrible situation:

(1) Try catching the bus at a stop earlier than the one I used today. At least I'd get a better seat.
(2) Switch to either shorter straight needles or use double pointed needes (I *do* have those socks to try to make) or use circular needles.
(3) Take an earlier or later bus. Maybe one of those will be less populated.
(4) Try a different bus. I have several to choose from.

I'm thinking some combination or permutation of the above will work. Confidence is high.

Made it through another July 19, my 10th thus far. I concentrated so much on helping mom through that I think I neglected my own mental/emotional well being. Feeling drained today...maybe it's adrenelin (adrenilin...adrinilin...rats...how is that spelled?) let down. I need a nap and perhaps massive amounts of knitting.

More squares, yay!

July 3rd, 2006 (10:41 am)

current location: work
current mood: geeky
current song: soundtrack from the Myst series of games

This month I'm sending out 2 squares. Waiting for my first one to arrive, but it's coming from England so I expect it may take a bit of extra time to get here. And, after all, I just mailed mine to England recently. Patience is a virtue. :D

Planning our trip to Maine. I want to stop in Massachusetts at a really neat-o restaurant and at the Gingerbread Construction Company. The restaurant for the FOOD and the Gingerbread Construction Company for...well...for the food (I sense a pattern here). The GCC makes enormous muffins that one could get seriously addicted to (or "to which one could get seriously addicted" if dangling participles bother you).

yum yum yum yum yum ad infinitum

current song: None (*sigh*)

My brain hurts. I fear what they wish done here at work cannot be done without a great deal of string datatype manipulation and gnashing of teeth. Massive quantities of chocolate may be necessary.

But! I have started on my first square for the square trade. Lovely green/teal color, but I have to keep ripping it out because I can't get it to be 8" across. Grrrr.

ah...fresh coffee...back to my string twiddling...

current song: Conversations with Angels, Ariel

Anticipating the square swap...I'm very excited!

Anticipating my new job. Office here almost cleaned out, papers almost fully filed. Anxiety is high, but the change should be most fulfilling.

Anticipating my vacation in 2 weeks!!!!

Anticipating my youngest daughter's concert tonight -- something that's always joyous.

And there are far too many yarns I want to buy on ebay!

current mood: confused

So now I have a live journal...who would have thought it? I joined primarily so I could participate in an afghan square trade. My daughter is a member and she has some lovely squares now and I do SO love knitting and crocheting and it looked fun so...here I am.

I am new to live journal and have never had such an account before so am a bit lost (hence the "confused" mood), but I am confident I will find my way about eventually.

If not...someone please leave a trail of crumbs (preferably of the cookie variety) for me so I can find my way back.
